I haven’t been back to Wee Nam Kee for perhaps more than 6-7 years. The last time i went was when they were still in the old premises. They are now located in United Square Mall.
The experience this time is not too good to be really honest. The staffs all seem to be some sort of attitude problem, either disgruntled employee or just avoiding eye contact so that they do not need to attend to customers. Took me at least 15 minutes and numerous times waving at them trying to get their attention until i just walk over to them and ask them over. They are just not attentive for some reasons and the owner doesn’t seem to be least bothered. Then it took another 20 minutes for the chicken to arrive. I think they thrive just because of its old brand name but service standard is sub hawker centre standard.
Bad service aside, the chicken is not too bad but for sure not the best. I ranked in way below the chicken rice stall in Maxwell road and slightly below ABC market. This is branded chicken at restaurant rate but hawker service standard or worst. If not for the convenience of being in the mall, i would have given it a miss. I recall i liked the roast chicken more but just decided to try the steamed chicken as most blogs seem to be reviewing that. I will try the roast chicken again next time i return (ie. if i return).
