This is the first time i stayed in ShenZhen. Usually i would stay in Hong Kong and cross the border for a day trip but with what’s happening in Hong Kong now, it is better to change my route. This is the Westin ShenZhen Nanshan hotel. It is quite a decent hotel to stay in and very conveniently located next to a mall which sits on top of the subway (Station name is Window of the World). This makes it a great location to stay in.
Really happy to find the Tai Hing Cha Chun Teng in the mall. Here’s where i can get my fix for the Hong Kong Food i missed.
I did a bit of sight-seeing and took the train all the way to Liao Jie. There’s actually a station at Liao Jie so it is very convenient although the train journey may take about 30-40 mins as it is pretty far away. Liao Jie is really crowded and they sell all sorts of stuffs which is a showcase of why China is a world’s factory.
Next Stop is Hang Zhou and I managed to make a quick stop to the famous West Lake. West Lake is one of the most scenic lakes in China and has inspired many poets over centuries. It is of great historical and cultural significance not just to China but also to other countries in terms of garden designs. My quick stop here just doesn’t quite do any justice to this famous lake and neither is my poor knowledge of West Lake. For anyone keen, there’s quite a lengthy write up of the history of West Lake in the internet.
My third stop is Beijing and I stayed at the China World Summit Wing which is part of the Shangri-la group. It is again connected to the very modern China World Mall so this makes the hotel a superb location to stay in.
I also made a super quick stop at the Tiananmen square and took some great pictures. The last time i was there was more than 5 years ago and security wasn’t that tight then. This time, foreigners need to bring passport before you can even get near the square as it is all fenced up.
A short but hectic trip as this was a business trip so that’s all i can manage for this blog post. Hope i can write more for the next one.
