I must say I am pleasantly surprised by Shanghai. It is better than I thought. The scenery at night is just amazing. I especially like those french colonial architectures that’s still remaining in many parts of Shanghai. Though most have been converted to department stores, it still looks the same on the outside.
This is at the NanJing Dong lu.
At the bund.
Then you have the old Shanghai streets. The ancient architecture is still preserved and it has a feeling of old and yet new.
And there’s StarBucks here surprisingly….
This is the famous Xiao Long Bao. You can see how long the queue is.
The other place i like is the Tian Zi Fang. It was the old french quarters that’s converted to shops. You can find shops among the narrow walkways selling souvenir, art and cafes here. It is the mixed of old and new that I love about this place.
This is where we stayed, the Sheraton Four Point Hotel. It is just an average hotel whereas the Sheraton Shanghai Hotel which is just beside is much better. Best if you can stay near the Nanjing Dong Lu where it is the main shopping stretch.
The view is not that great.
This is one of the best dish that i have tried in shanghai at the Xiao Nan Guo, a very popular chain of restaurant there. It is clayport pork and it is really tasty. The other is the dried La Mein but i forgot to take some pictures.
Top sell and it taste great.
Some smoke duck and it is also very good.
Xiao Long Bai again and surely good.
Can’t recall what’s this dish but looks like veggie with cuttlefish.
This is a small eatery and the food is good. Worth trying it out.
We also went to another fine dining restaurant, the Shanghai Bund Restaurant which I find abit overhyped and very expensive. I think it is great for entertaining customers as we had the best view as it overlooks the bund (you need to book early to get the view). Great atmosphere but food is overhyped.
Smoked COD fish underneath all the veggies.
The lamb which is not too bad.
This is the beef steak but I think can give a miss.
Wasabi prawns which is rather standard in many restaurant.
The Xiao Long Bao is good. Well, this is the national dish there so almost everywhere is good.
This restaurant is some Chong Qing Steamboat behind a quiet alley along the Nanjing Dong Lu. The taste is quite unique but not my favorite as it is too peperish and spicy. The aircon in the shop also doesn’t work well which makes it worst. To be fair, the taste is not bad.
Their MRT looks modern and clean. It can beat any other cities. I wonder why is it so empty. Maybe it is just their off peak hours. Generally the trip is rather pleasant and we had only one encounter with bad social grace. While on the train, some nice couple gave up their seats for us but another older couple rush over to take the seat. Best part is they think it is perfectly normal behavior. Other than that, it is a good trip nonetheless.
