It’s Ruth Kris Steakhouse again as it is time to bring my buddy to one of the best steak in Singapore. I had one of the best experience a few years ago where we ordered a tomahawk to be shared among four. The only difference this time was that there were just two of us and my friend wanted to try the ribeye and fillet. I was a little bit lost when I drive the what I thought was Marina Mandarin as I only see Park Royal Hotel. I did not even know that the hotel changed hands. Not sure if the pandemic has anything to do with it but what a pity as I know Marina Mandarin was there for the longest time even when I was still in school.

We went for soup of the day which is french onion soup. The french onion soup is pretty decent though nothing to shout about but we shared a bowl as we wanted to reserve our capacity for the meat. The waiter was nice enough to split them into two bowls.

We also ordered the Brussels sprouts which is one of my favourite veggie. The Brussels spouts did not disappoint and it came with strips of bacon which make it even more flavorful though less healthy. Somehow having greens with steak is some clever marketing as i doubt it make a difference with the sinful piece of meat but it does make you feel less guilty about your meal.

There was the choice of the tomahawk and porter house to share but it was really huge like 1 kilograms bone-in. Without the bone, it would still be about 800grams that means 400grams each which is too much. Thus my friend decided to try something else like the ribeye and fillet. Here are the diagrams to help us identify where were the cuts from. My apologies for not finding two cow pictures that faced the same direction, being a OCD person like I am.

The picture nearer to the picture is the fillet and the other the ribeye. The ribeye won hands down as i find it juicy and flavourful. The fillet was alot more chewy and more texture though less flavourful. The ribeye was easy but I struggled with the fillet as I find it rather hard to chew.

I think it is a little disappointment for both my friend and I. It could be the choice of the cut as the experience was no where near best steak experience had years ago when I went for the tomahawk. Perhaps satisfaction is only at about 7/10? The number one so far is still the Wolfgang Steakhouse followed by Bistecca Tuscan Steakhouse. This visit be maybe 5th after Wolomoloo Steakhouse though it might not be a fair comparison as we had a 4 course meal at Wolomoloo.

What was the damage? For two person dining with a glass of wine each, it cost us about $316. In anycase, i will still give Ruth Kris another chance due to the near perfect experience I once had years ago.
