Premium Economy on Singapore Airlines

Read Time:1 Minute, 55 Second

I had another opportunity to fly premium economy again on the Singapore Airlines. This was the Singapore to Mumbai segment on a airbus A380-800. For some strange reasons, the price of the premium economy seat was only SGD90 higher than economy. Though I can’t rationalise the pricing strategy, i jumped at this opportunity as it was a no brainer.

It was quite an empty flight with many empty seats even in the premium economy. At least Singapore Airlines premium economy seating is separated from the economy segment as unlike with Lufthansa’s . The legroom was more in Lufthansa’s premium economy.

The screen on the A380 appeared to be smaller than the A350-900 on the return leg. Not 100% sure but unless I measure or check out the specifications.

You can ask for Charles de Cazanove Brut Tradition NV champagne after take off. I said asked for it as I wasn’t offered voluntarily as compared to my last flight about 1 year ago. Probably a cost savings thing again.

Even the snack was of a higher quality and more expensive type. It was mixed nuts of cashew and almond with zero peas .

The meal consists of some meat with curry and seared tuna as appetisers. The tuna was tasty and with good texture. The main course was a little too spicy for me especially for supper plus I already had my diner at the SQ lounge.

One of the best thing about SQ’s premium economy was the noise cancellation head-set. I wasn’t using them as I had my own superb Sony WH-1000XM4 but passengers will for sure find that useful especially for bedtime. Finnair was the other airline that provided noise cancellation head-set for their premium economy product.

The flight was just a little short of 6 hours but having extra legroom and wider seats is definitely welcomed especially if one of the segment was a red eye flight like mine. A 5 hours+ flight wasn’t a very good timing for overnight flight. After the meal service, you were only left with a little more than 3 hours to sleep. 3 hours sleep wasn’t neither here nor there and made one extremely tired or grouchy upon arrival. Well, flying on premium economy was the consolation for an otherwise tiring overnight flight.
