Premium Economy on ANA flights

Premium economy is a great way to fly especially for a longer distance flight where you need abit more comfort but do not wish to pay an arm and a leg for business class. The ticket cost me about SGD2,591 from Singapore to Hawaii including the taxes.

This Singapore to Tokyo (haneda) segment was on B747 and my seat was 15C, a bulkhead aisle seat on the left row. The legroom was very spacious and i can fully straighten my leg so I think this seat cost abit more than those behind. The seat can recline more than the standard economy but not as much as business class of course. Each seat has a small own private arm rest so you do not need to wrestle with your fellow passenger for that cherished little piece of real estate.

The amenities bag comes with a pair of sandals with shoe horn, headset and an inflatable neck pillow. Then the stewardess will come around separately with eye bags, toothbrushs and face masks. The headset was a rather disappointing normal headset and not like the noise cancellation type that both Finnair or Singapore Airlines provides for premium economy.

Dinner was cold fish with bacon which was pretty tasty.

The next leg from Haneda to Honolulu was also B747 and i chose the same seat 15C. Dinner was chicken terriyaki and it came with Hagen Daz ice cream. For some reasons, the ice cream that both Singapore Airline or All Nippon Air chose appears to be always vanilla flavour. Maybe that’s due to the lower cost as compared to chocolate?

Just prior to landing at honolulu airport, you can a small bag of breakfast/snacks consisting of a bottle of water, Japanese snack and a muffin.

This segment from Honolulu to Tokyo was on A380. It has a much bigger section of premium economy at the back of the upper row. This time i chose the emergency seat as i recalled during my last trip the A380 has a huge space at the emergency row.

Though my seat was pretty good, the best seat could be seat 28 D, F or G as shown in the picture below. A huge space in between but the screen could be a little bit far and also a distance if you need to use the pouch to keep your things. Alternatively, my seat 28H is a good choice. 28K is not good as the headspace is a little low and feels rather claustrophobic being smack in the corner.

On the Tokyo to Singapore segment, my seat was 15D on the middle row and aisle seat as 15C was taken.

This meal wasn’t great. That was supposed to be something like tonkatsu but it was so soggy that it feels yucky. I would prefer they serve something else which do not have any crust. It could be difficult to keep it dry and crunchy on a flight.

Thought the ANA premium economy is more like a no frills version, it is no doubt still comfortable and great for longer distance flight. With the high service standards of the Japanese, it has become one of my favourite airline to travel due to it’s competitively and affordably priced tickets.
