Kedai Bak Kut Teh Hin Hock

Bak Kut Teh is one of my favourite dish and especially the Malaysia style herbal version. This Kedai Bak Kut Teh Hin Hock restaurant is one that is not too far from the Bukit Indah or about 15 mins drive. I just love the rustic setting when you drive into the parking area. The road surface of the parking area is terrible with portholes and uneven surfaces but that makes it fun.

The restaurant is actually bigger than it appears from the outside with seating even deeper in. The restaurant gives a kampong feeling with its zinc roof and reminds me of my grandparents place in the early days of Singapore. You can hardly find such place in Singapore these days but there are still plenty in Malaysia which perhaps is part of the charm.

We ordered the bak kut teh, pig trotter, steam fish and tofu. They were very generous with the ingredients with liver, mushrooms, tau pak, tau kee, pork ribs. For the pig trotter, we asked for lean meat which came with plenty of lean meat. Another popular dish not to be missed is the steam snapper and the tofu was simple but delicious.

After my first visit, i felt that the bak kut teh dish was very salty, more salty than usual. Though i was unsure it is salt or the MSG. Either way, i felt very thirsty for the next few hours. My second visit confirmed that so maybe I won’t go back so often.
