Jia Bin Klang Bak Kut Teh

Spread the love
Read Time:3 Minute, 1 Second

I love the herbal style Bak Kut Teh which is the norm in Malaysia. Since Covit, i have not been able to have my fix and have such a huge cravings. I have probably tried most of the Klang Bak Kut Teh and each has it’s own unique style but i still absolutely love it. I have tried the Kiang Kee in Johor, Sun Hong in Kuala Lumpur, just to name some of them. To get the whole list of where I have been to, you can click on the tag Bak Kut Teh or just click here.

You can see my best Malaysian Bak Kut Teh compilation here in this link. I tried the one at Tangs food court recently but the pieces of meat are just so pathetic and herbal taste a little way too strong for my liking. When i tried this Jia Bin Klang Bak Kut Teh at Rangoon road, it has just about the right dose of herbs. It could be the best herbal Bak Kut Teh in Singapore.

The dishes

I ordered the two person share for the soup version and single person for the rest. The herbal taste of the soup version tasted just right, not too strong and not too weak. It has moderate dose of meat, innards and tao pok. Best part is that they allow refill as some in Singapore strangely do not permit. The soup base just taste amazing and immediately transported me back to my food hunting days in Malaysia and how much i misses it.

The dried version pales in comparison big time. This is definitely not the best dried version of the Klang Bak Kut Teh as there are many fantastic dried version in Malaysia. The taste of the gravy is not strong enough which is really key so that i can go well with the rice. This just doesn’t have the ‘oomph’ though it looked great.

The dry version

The braised pork leg is really good. The meat is very tender and it is the mildly sweet version. As always, such braised stuffs goes great with rice. This is not to be missed.

As for the supporting cast like the tau kee and you tiao, I have not much to say except that the tau kee taste abit different than the normal Singapore style. It is drier and has more texture i suppose.

The Venue

As for the ambience and setting, nothing to shout about. It is as no frills as you can get. It is minimum decor as i suppose making it easier for them to relocate when landlord raises the rental. Parking over here could be slightly more challenging as there are limited public parking lots by the roadside that will test your parallel parking skills. A way to beat that is to go early and you will find plenty of lots available. Just don’t come too late as this is also near to the very popular Ng Ah Sio Bak Kut Teh just few blocks down the road.

Verdict

Will i be back again? An absolute yes as i love herbal style Bak Kut Teh so i will come here to get my fix. The herbal style will for sure catch on among fellow Singaporeans as i know there are quite a substantial percentage that prefers herbal than the pepperish style. The peperish style just makes me sweaty and having a running nose, not a welcoming sight especially during covit times. This has to be by far the best herbal Bak Kut Teh in Singapore.
