Amazing Bhutan

Spread the love
Read Time:3 Minute, 3 Second
Seldom I get blown away by any country but Bhutan is one such country. I just felt like stuck in time in this country. It feels like living in the land of the samurai but in modern times. In this post, i would like to share alot more pictures to give a glimpse of this forbidden land.

This the view from the air when the plane was approaching the landing strip. The landing is one of the scariest i have ever experienced as the plane dip it’s nose instead of up just like the usual large aircrafts. The airport is located on a short plateau of land up in the mountains. I think there’s the only place here where they can find a bigger piece of flat land.

It is a propeller plane but it is quite an enjoyable and stable ride.

This is the airport. Looks clean and nice. Definitely much better than the kathmandu airport.

The view from Thimpu city, the capital of Bhutan.

My room at a local hotel.

Surprisingly, the dishes are quite tasty.

This is their national costume and they do wear this to work.

The palace and parliament house. The king actually just stayed in a small house beside the palace.

This is where the ministers and civil servants stayed. It is housing provided by the government for it’s top civil servants.

This strange looking animal is Takin, the national animal for Bhutan. It has the head of a goat and body of a cow. This is just a baby.

The view from the inside of the hotel.

One of the many fortresses guarding strategic locations of Bhutan.

I have stayed in cities my whole life so being able to see apples on trees are simply amazing.

An apple farm.

This is a pear tree.

This is the Taktsang monastery amazingly perched alongside a cliff. It is so high up in the mountain that it takes an entire day to just go up and down. This is provided you are fit. I did not try as you may guess that I am not fit.

A brocoli plantation.

This is my room in another town.

Check out the view from my room. This is actually what i can see from my bed. The view is just spectacular.

Luckily this is not my room. The next few pictures are just how the typical family lives.

When the Bhutanese wants to build a home, all their friends and family chipped in to help. They don’t need to hire contractors but just build a house with help of friends and family.

The next few pictures will show you how beautiful Bhutan is.

Bhutan is simply amazing. It is a great place to relax and perfect place to escape from city life. The pace of living is naturally very slow and the air is clean. It is just so different from anywhere that i have being. When i am in Bhutan, I just cannot help but draw comparisons with Nepal. They have the same climate and geography but one is so well run but the other is not. Kathmandu is chaotic and very polluted. With all the tourism dollars and funds from NGOs, it is surprising that the infrastructure is still very poor and population poor. Bhutan managed to learn from it’s neighbours and consciously target high value tourism (ie. high spending tourist). They impose some fees per day (approximately USD 200/Day) for tourist so you won’t see many backpackers in the near future.  I think the government just doesn’t want it to become like another Kathmandu.
